Talks & Public Speaking

James is available to talk at camera clubs, schools, private events, trade shows and conferences – either in person or remotely. Typical talks are intended to be lighthearted and fun, describing James’ climbing and mountaineering background, which led to an unexpected career in adventure photography and guidebook publishing. That was a really good talk tonight. I could tell that the crowd really appreciated the quality of the images which were all fresh and with many unlike anything they had seen before, especially those with an element of adventure.

Since the pandemic James has been offering a two hour zoom presentation for camera clubs around the world:

Exploring the Italian Dolomites and Iceland with James Rushforth – an unexpected career in photography and guidebook writing

In this talk James describes his unexpected and fortuitous journey into outdoor and adventure photography and writing; from first picking up a camera in 2012 to his success at the British and International Photography awards just a decade later. James’ transient lifestyle, moving between the pale mountains of the Italian Dolomites to the wilds of Iceland, has led to the creation of three photo-location guidebooks, showcasing his images and providing cultural and local information for visitors to his adopted regions. The presentation follows his natural progression from adventure to landscape photography, focusing on the logistics and creative nuances of both.

Testimonials

We thoroughly enjoyed your talk and the images that went with it – top stuff! And other members I’ve spoken with have said just the same. One commented he immediately bought your two Fotovue books on Iceland and the Dolomites. And looking in the travel section of our bookshelves I’ve just found your Dolomites book!

Thank you so much for your talk last night. I’ve had lots of comments from people saying how much they enjoyed it – the mix of your story and the excitement of your adventures with such stunning photography. And your willingness to go into details about how you operate was much appreciated.

On behalf of the club I would like to thank you for a truly excellent talk yesterday evening. The storyline and photography both excelled and your style and delivery was most entertaining, although I do think you downplayed the sense of danger just a bit! The talk was definitely the right way around as had the climbing section been in the latter half, just before bedtime, I think half the membership would have had nightmares about dangling off sheer cliffs and fraying ropes...

Suffice to say the feedback from members after the meeting has been amongst the best we have had and I am also sure the members would love to have you visit us again with more tales of derring do and stunning photography.
— Geoff Martin – Programme Secretary – Bookham Camera Club
Many many thanks, I thoroughly enjoyed tonight, and it seemed to go done very well with all. Stunning images with a nice mix tips with technical detail, and stories. Stunning images great to see your initial climbing and skiing pics. Superb!
